Trey Patterson Getting It In

Hello Basketball World,

This is Trey Patterson, signing back in for my 3rd week of ‘Diary of a Baller’. This week was unusually light for me, but I wasn’t complaining not one bit. Due to my active schedule since the start of school, I wasn’t able to get to physical therapy as often as I normally do. However, I was able to make my physical therapy appointment on Tuesday. I attend physical therapy as a preventive method to help decrease any possible injuries, while also working on strengthening weak muscles. I had a workout with my trainer, DJ Sackmann on Wednesday, and a cross country meet on Thursday.

On Tuesday, at physical therapy, my therapist Andrew, really emphasized getting my legs and lower body stronger. In saying that, I did a lot of squats and lower body exercises. After the workout, my legs were so sore, but when I got home, I completed my homework for the night and got a good night of sleep.

Like I said, previously in my introduction, On Wednesday, I had a workout with my trainer, DJ Sackmann at the Ranney School. This workout was very intense for almost two hours. We worked on a lot of moves that consisted of creating space from your defender, we also played a lot of one on one to use those moves against an actual defender and not just a cone. In the one-on-one’s, I was competing against Scottie Lewis, which was a good thing for me, because I had a chance to go up against one of the top sophomores in the country, which helped me work on increasing my decision making on the court. Once I got home, I showered and got something to eat, then I had to review my math notes for a quiz the next day.

On Thursday, I had my math quiz and I thought it was pretty easy and felt I did well. After school, I had an away cross country meet at Princeton Day School. I came in 1st overall out of the 80 total runners. It was very cold and misty out, but once I started to run, my body started warming up, and I felt really good while running the course. After the race was over, I felt like I could have run another 2 miles.

Over the weekend, the weather was rainy and not to great, and I actually had some down time. I was able to have some fun and play Xbox with my friends. The past few weeks, I haven’t been able to play my NBA 2K17 because of my busy schedule. This is how my week went, I hope all of you enjoyed and stay tuned for next week.

Trey Patterson signing off!!! Until next time folks!!

Trey Patterson Working Hard

Hello Basketball World,

This is Trey Patterson, signing back in for my 4th week of ‘Diary of a Baller’ and this week was a very fun-filled and exciting week for me. On Monday, I went to Six Flags with a couple of my school friends. On Wednesday, I had physical therapy, then on Thursday, I had a cross-country meet. On Friday, I went to Rutgers Midnight Madness. On Saturday, I had an AAU practice.

Since Monday was a day off from school, my friends’ and I planned a fun day at Six Flags/Great Adventures Amusement Park. I was so excited for this day to arrive, I was concerned that the weather would cause us to not be able to go, but it was a breezy day, that turned out to be nice and sunny for us. All of my friends were talking about getting on the big rides, and I really didn’t know what to expect, as it was my first time getting on any high roller coasters at Six Flags. I had many different emotions before getting on these rides, because I was never a fan of roller coasters before now. I still can’t get over that adrenaline. We ended up getting on most of the high roller coasters. My favorite moment, was when I went on the World’s Tallest roller coaster, Kingda Ka. That was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I had a lot of fun with my friends, and I look forward to going back.

On Wednesday, I went to physical therapy. During my therapy session this week, we worked on improving my explosiveness and my ability to jump higher. After therapy, my quads were extremely sore, as it was a tough workout session. On Thursday, I had an away cross-country meet at Wardlaw Hartridge. It was a very nice running weather type of day. I felt really relaxed before the start of the race, and out of 80 kids, I placed 1st overall. My final time for the race was 11:31 on a 1.8 mile course.

On Friday, I attended Rutgers Midnight Madness with one of my friends. It was a very cool experience to watch a college team participate in many different team activities along with a three point and dunk contest.

On Saturday morning, I had an AAU practice. During practice, we worked on a lot of different concepts focusing on team emphasis, such as going over offensive and defensive sets. We also did a lot of skills and drills breakdowns. These drills were very intense as Coach Reggie demanded high energy and complete focus. This wraps up my week. I hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for what I have in stored for my next week’s entry!

Until next time folks!! Trey Patterson signing off!!!

Diary Of A Baller: Trey Patterson (Somerset, NJ) Entry #5

Trey Patterson With Legend Chris Mullin

Hello Basketball World,

This is Trey Patterson signing back in for my 5th week of ‘Diary of a Baller’. This past week was very eventful for me.

On Monday, I attended a basketball workout in Perth Amboy, NJ. During this two-hour workout, we worked on ball handling and shooting. I got a lot of shots up, it’s always good to work on your ball handling and shooting technique, so it can become muscle memory.

The next day Tuesday, I had physical therapy and I worked on improving the strength of my calves and quads. My therapist, Andrew reviewed my body scan report that I was tested for a few weeks ago, and he also started creating a program for me, to focus on strengthen those weak muscles that were identified in the report. I try to get into therapy at least once a week, to keep progressing as an athlete.

On Wednesday, I didn’t have school because of it being a Jewish holiday, so I took this day off, as an opportunity to relax, complete some homework and play my Xbox with friends, because I knew the rest of the week was going to be a busy one for me.

On Thursday, I had an away cross country meet which took place at the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The weather was chilly, but not too cold, I feel like I run, my best race when it’s slightly cold outside. I came in 2nd place overall. The kid who came in 1st place, he was very fast, I said to myself, he has to run all year round, because he was just way too fast with great endurance. But, he challenged me, which I liked, and by him doing so, I improved my mile time by 7 seconds, my personal best is now at 6 minutes and 17 seconds a mile. In my last 3 meets, I have increased my mile time by 7 seconds, which I am excited about.

On Friday, I went to St. John’s Midnight Madness in New York City. I liked this event way better than the Rutgers Midnight Madness, I went to last week. The Men’s team held a scrimmage, unlike Rutgers. The DJ was very good, and I liked a lot of the music he played. This was a packed sold out event, and the students really came out to support their Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams. Many of St. John’s alumni were in attendance, most notable to me, was J.Cole. After the basketball events, the rapper, Designer performed and he had the place jumping. He told everyone in the stands, to come join him on the court, then people started rushing the court. At the end, of his performance, the tech crew turned off the speakers and mic while he was still performing and even that didn’t stop him, it was crazy. I also had the opportunity to meet Chris Mullins, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, and took a picture with him. This was a Great Experience for me!!!

On Saturday, I had AAU practice in the morning, then I had a dentist appointment shortly after practice. After that, I attended one of my school friends’ birthday party, I really had a good time. This is how my week went, I hope all of you enjoyed. Stay tuned for what I have in stored for next week’s entry!

Until next time, Trey Patterson signing off!

Diary Of A Baller: Trey Patterson (Somerset, NJ) Entry #6

Trey Working On The Vertimax

Hello Basketball World,

This is Trey Patterson signing back in for my 6th week of ‘Diary of a Baller’. It was a very busy and hard-working week for me.

On Monday, it was a very light day for me. I had a well visit doctor’s appointment, and to update my physical form for school. When I got home, I played Xbox for an hour or so, then I worked out on the court in my backyard. I did ball handling and shooting drills.

On Tuesday, I had a cross country meet at the Hun School. This course was very hilly and real brutal to run. But, it was my 3rd time running this course in the past 2 years, so I knew what to expect. Although this was a tough course, I finished 1st place overall. Later that night, I went to a high school fall league game. The game wasn’t that exciting because it was a one sided blow out.

On Wednesday, I had a physical therapy appointment. My therapy sessions are always demanding and intense for a good hour and a half. During this workout, the main focus was on improving my explosiveness and increasing my foot speed.

On Thursday, I had another cross country meet against the Ranney School. The setup was weird this week because we usually have one meet a week, but we had two meets this week. The course was about 1.5 miles; it was one of the shortest courses I ran this year. Also, I came in first place overall, again. Later that night, I had an orthodontist appointment to check on the progress of my braces.

On Saturday, I literally spent a full day of working out in the gym. In the morning, I had a workout were the focus was mostly on ball handling and increasing stamina. After the morning workout, a group of us went to eat lunch at a nearby mall. After lunch, I had a skills workout. During this workout, the group worked on a lot of pivoting drills to enhance our footwork and help us to create space against defenders.

On Sunday, in the morning, I had a muscle endurance and explosion workout. This workout was a new experience for me, as I had an opportunity to use the Vertimax for the first time. We also did exercises like dumbbell squat and lunges. When the workout was over, my mom and I went to Hoop Group to watch some of the high school team’s play. The teams I saw play were: The Patrick School vs St Raymonds. I thought this game would have been a much closer game, but the Patrick School took a big early lead and never looked back. The match up between Gill St Bernards vs. Ranney School was another game I was surprised the score favored Gill with a big lead. The St Anthony’s game vs Trinity Academy was a close one. It was good to see some of the top high school teams from New Jersey/ New York compete before their actual basketball seasons begin. It was also good to see many players that I played middle school AAU basketball with making the transition to their new high school teams.

Until next time, Trey Patterson signing off.

Basketball Spotlight has been around for a decade and continues to be the leader when it comes to grammar and middle school basketball. The Spotlight always gives the most exposure of any pre-high school scouting service and is in the center of the Northeast corridor where the best teams travel to Spotlight tournaments in hopes of bringing home the elusive Spotlight Banner. This year will be no different as the circuit has already been released boasting 5 tournaments and 1 elite camp beginning in December with the Tip Off Classic and culminating with the Future Phenom Camp in August. Many future pro’s and high level D-1 College basketball players have competed in the Spotlight tournaments and events. Will you or your team be next? The following are the Top 10 reasons why the Spotlight tournaments are the events to play in. Don’t miss out as every event always sells out.

Top 10 Reasons To Attend The Basketball Spotlight Circuit

1. Elite Competition – The best teams come to the Spotlight. The great thing is that usually in the 6th through 8th grade divisions there are two brackets in order to pair up teams that are competively matched. Blowouts don’t help anyone and it is our goal to make all games matter.

2. Banners– Leagues have become the hot new thing but in a league there is only one champion at the end. At the Spotlight there is a champion at every tournament.

3. Cost– We give you more bang for your buck. The Spotlight gives a chance to play the best teams for a good price.

4. Rankings – The Spotlight promotes teams and players with their Top 10 team ranking and National Player rankings.

5. Value – Many tournaments have running clocks and modified rules that make you feel like you wasted your money. At the Spotlight it is stopped clock games and never goes to a running clock. We like a team to be able to come back when they are down.

6. Relationships– We have years of experience and many long standing relationships with the basketball powers in the country. We give feedback to many different people around the country on players and teams for different elite invitations to events, high school recruiting, etc.

7. Honest and Reputable– We do what we say and deliver what we promise.

8. Tradition– The Spotlight has been the first to write about and identify many of the top players in the country. 10 years running strong.

9. Print and Video– The Spotlight provides the most Print and Video media of any middle school website in the country. After each event we write about more teams and players than anyone else.

10. Maximum Exposure– www.bballspotlight.com gets more hits than any other Grammar and Middle School Basketball Website in the country.
