The 8th Grade Division at the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase featured some of the top talent in the region. Here’s Part 2 of our Top Performers.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Ben Roy Guard (Team Rio) – In today’s era of basketball floor spacing and stretching the floor with the 3ball seems like the way the game has evolved to. Roy is Rio’s floor spacer with a sweet stroke behind the line. Ben also can be a secondary ball handler and as he continues to gain confidence with his ball handling we see him moving over to the PG position long term. He has a high IQ and can score from all three levels. He finished with 16 points in the semifinal.

Justin Soranno Forward (Team Rio) – A 6’6 big man with a soft touch around the basket is what Justin is right now. He hasn’t even come close to scratching the surface of his potential. We like his current size and strength and as he develops on both ends of the floor he should be one to track down the road. Soranno also has a nice touch from the FT line and is a good rebounder. He tallied 12 point in the semifinal.
Elijah Perkins Forward (Team Rio) – Probably the best prospect on his team, Perkins is a long wing that passes the look test. He has the potential to be an elite two way player. Right now he is a little better on the defensive end but he can attack the basket either in the half court or in transition. As he continues to improve his game Perkins will be a player that many high schools will be recruiting for his services.
Everton Browne Guard (Team Rio) – Like Roy, Everton is known as a 3 point sniper. He has expanded his game and we liked his ability to put the ball on the floor and score with his pull up game. He has also improved his point guard game showing how he can make proper decisions and get his teammates involved. He finished with 10 points in the semifinal.
Marcus Gaffney Forward (Team Rio) – We love the poise that Gaffney plays with always making the right basketball play. He is starting to handle the ball more and he has always been a very good passer. With his size and strength Marcus is a good finisher through contact and his mid-range jumper has always been a strength of his.
William Richardson Guard (NJ Playaz) – Richardson’s stock continues to rise as one of the top PG’s in his class. He has a great feel for the game and a high basketball IQ. He is wired to score and plays off the pick and roll very well. He has great range well beyond the 3 point line and his court vision is good making nice assists to his teammates for easy buckets.
Dasean Lecque Guard (NJ Playaz) – Lecque is an athletic combo guard that can get a bucket. He has good bloodlines as his brother Jalen is one of the top guards in the 2019 class. Desean can score from all three levels and he has a very nice jumper from 3 point land. Lecque has the ability to be a lock down defender with his athleticism. Lecque and Richardson arguably make up one of the best backcourts in the country.

Darren Tuck

The 8th Grade Division at the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase featured some of the top talent in the region. Here’s Part 2 of our Top Performers.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Darren Tuck Forward (Team IZOD) – When I saw Tuck I immediately said to myself this kid has to be good. He looks like a prototypical wing with nice length and he has the ability to be effective on both ends of the floor. When speaking to his coach he said that Darren just came back to the team and he is working himself back in the rotation. He also mentioned that he has a nice jump shot.

Jadin Collins Guard (Team IZOD) – Collins is a nice PG with good athleticism. He plays tough on both ends of the floor. He has active hands on the defensive end and we saw him pick the opposing PG at the top of the key and went the other way for an And 1 finish. It is always important if your PG can make free throws and Jadin can knock his down. He finished with 12 points in the game we watched.
Roleeke Smith Forward (Team IZOD) – Smith is an undersized power forward that is very effective because he plays to his strengths. He plays hard, finishes around the basket using his wide body to carve out space in the paint. You will also see him grab the rebound and push the rock leading the break. He finished with 12 point in the game we saw.
Elijah Flournoy Forward (Team IZOD) – Elijah is a strong body wing forward that brought a cheer from the crowd when he had a steal and a dunk at the other end. He can overpower his defender and his strength is attacking the rim. We also believe he can be an effective defender and rebounder.
Jaylen Hernandez Guard (Hoop Wave Elite) – Jaylen was the best jump shooter on his team. He could stretch the floor knocking down the long ball plus he has a nice mid-range jumper. He also showed he could knock down his free throws. He finished with 13 points in the game we watched.
C.J. Wilson Guard (Hoop Wave Elite) – Wilson is a pure point guard that has elite handles and court vision. This strong body guard loves to pass the rock. We saw him make many different types of passes getting his teammates easy buckets. He was one of few players that we saw that affected the game without scoring.

Quadir Brown Forward (Philly Triple Threat) – Brown is a wing forward with some size, strength, and skill. He could score from all three levels and showed he had range out to the three point line. He is at his best going downhill. He rebounds well for his position. Quadir finished with 12 points.
Ife Ingram Guard (Philly Triple Threat) – Ife is a combo guard that can get buckets. His strength is knocking down the long ball. He connected on three long balls in the game we watched. His handles are good where he can navigate around the court freeing himself up for open shots. He finished with 13 points in the game we watched.
Chad Anglin Forward (Philly Triple Threat) – Anglin is a long forward that looks like he is still growing. Right now he is more a prospect than a finished product but you can see the potential. He has soft hands and a soft touch around the rim. Right now he is more effective on the defensive end rebounding and either blocking or altering shots in the paint.

Nick Padilla

The 7th Grade Division at the Atlantic City Showcase was the toughest by far. Here’s a look at our Top Performers from the event.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Nick Padilla Guard (Riverside Hawks)- Padilla is having a POY type season and he didn’t slack up in Atlantic City. He did his usual damage running the show and controlling the tempo but also got buckets when he team needed it most. He tallied 18 points against Fidonce, 20 against Team IZOD in the semifinals and another 16 markers versus East Coast Elite in the finals. “Slick” Nick is literally munching on the competition this year.

Jomani Wright Guard (Riverside Hawks)- Mr. Wright also saved his best play for the big games at the AC Showcase. The high scoring southpaw used his quickness and range to pick apart the opposition. He nailed two treys on his way to 14 points versus Fidonce, two treys and 16 markers versus NJ Playaz and three treys and 20 points in the semifinals versus Team IZOD. When he’s on he a real problem slow down.
Mackenzie MgBako Forward (Riverside Hawks)- Mgbako didn’t put up huge scoring numbers but it’s obvious he was one of the best prospects in this division. His fluid approach on the perimeter had spectators calling him little KD. He’s definitely a matchup problem for opponents. Once his body fully develops NY might have a true stud in their future.
Tarik Watson Forward (East Coast Elite)- Tarik Watson is in the class of 2024 playing up in 2023. Plays on the Loaded East Coast Elite Team. He stands 6’3” tall and dominates the inside of the paint. He maybe the best in the class of 2024 playing on the circuit right now. He has excellent foot work and finishes at the rim at a high percentage. The thing we like about this player is that he seems to like playing inside and getting it done. Tarik has bright future and has the potential to be one of the best players in the country. He was able to dominate the inside play all weekend long and help to lead East Coast Elite all weekend.
Korbyn Samuels Guard (East Coast Elite)- Korbyn Samuels is a slender guard that can get to wherever he wants on the floor. He is an excellent finisher while attacking the rim and has nice pull-up game. He stands 6’2” inches and has a great motor. His athletic ability makes him a great rebounder and shot blocker from the point guard spot. His ability to see the floor and get his teammates easy passes to finish around the rim is tremendous. If Korbyn game continues to progress he has a bright future and will one of the best guards in the country.
Akil Watson Guard (East Coast Elite)-Akil Watson class of 2023 is a very good player that can attack the rim and pull-up for midrange shots. He has excellent vision and always seem to find the open players. Akil played excellent in the championship game grabbing rebounds and finishing around the rim. He stands 6’2” inches and has nice size to play the wing. His full potential is untapped and we look forward to seeing Akil grow as a player.

Jermain McCray Guard (East Coast Elite)-Jermaine McCray is a dominate player that helped East Coast Elite get to the championship. In their semifinal match-up we saw Jermaine dominate the game finishing with layups and pulling up for array of midrange shots. He has strong body that helps him to absorb contact as he is going to rim. Jermaine stands 6’1” and is a good defender that guard usually any spot on the floor.

Arthur Harris Guard (East Coast Elite)- Arthur Harris is good wing that can knock down shots and finish at the rim with ease. He has nice jump shot that he utilize when the defense is sagging off. Arthur has the potential to be really good wing or point guard if continues to work hard. He also has uncanny ability to score the ball from anywhere on the floor and that is special.

William Norman

The 7th Grade Division at the Atlantic City Showcase was the toughest by far. Here’s a look at Part 2 Top Performers from the event.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 2

William Norman Forward (NJ Bulldogs)- The walking double-double lived up to his name as he dominated the paint while leading NJ Bulldogs to the final four. He can literally carry defenders to the cup for buckets or usually ends up at the charity stripe. He’s not a player that needs to motivated because he enters the game with a mean streak. He averaged nearly 20 points a contest and over 10 boards. He’s a fierce competitor.

Sebastian Robinson Guard (NJ Bulldogs)- The smooth combo guard put the squad on his back against Team Diffrnt. He was scorching hot from the perimeter nailing 4 treys on his way to 20 markers. He looked very comfortable with his new squad and was a great addition alongside William Norman. Nice one-two punch.
Kamal Lee Guard (NJ Bulldogs)- The scoring also showed he could stroke it from the perimeter. When the defense sunk into Norman or double team Robinson Lee made them pay. He’s truly a defense stretcher especially if you tried to zone.
Jagen Chapman Forward (Fidonce)- Chapman was totally dominant down low and lived at the charity stripe. He soft touch made him almost impossible to stop inside. He finished with 22 markers including 8 from the free throw line. He’s a load to handle and defenses must pay attention.

Christian Pierre Louis Guard (Team IZOD)- The Pierre Louis genes are starting to kick in for Christian. He slimmed down and his quickness is starting to show. He was able to create shots off the bounce and score in traffic. His big game came in the semifinals against Riverside Hawks he finished with 15 points.

Kenneth Shippee Forward (Team IZOD)- Shippee had a good Clash For The Cup and it carried over into AC Showcase. The strong forward dominated the baseline and showed he could knockdown the jump shot. He’s a solid contributor on both ends of the floor.

Jake Croce Forward (Team IZOD)- Croce had a huge weekend at the AC Showcase. He played the big man role and averaged double figures in scoring. He hit up Team Diffrnt and Riverside Hawks for 16 points apiece. We look forward to seeing again very soon.

DJ Wagner

The 7th Grade Division at the Atlantic City Showcase was the toughest by far. Here’s a look at Part 3 Top Performers from the event.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Dajuan Wagner Guard (Team Final)- The prolific scorer was at it again in Atlantic City. First, he hit East Coast Elite for 18 markers in a loss. Then he led his team with 20 markers in their win versus Courtmasters Elite. In the playoffs he dropped 22 points in their quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Riverside Hawks. Scoring is in his blood and it showed at the AC Showcase.

Cornelius Robinson Forward (Team Final)- Robinson was a great pickup for the Team Final crew. He plays the game with enormous energy displaying scoring, rebounding and playing defense. He showed good scoring prowess from the free throw line in and along the baseline. He tallied 18 points against ECE and Courtmasters. He was a great compliment for Wagner.
James Johns Guard (Team Final)- This kid continues to impress us when we watch him rock. He has a smooth approach which involves playmaking. It’s difficult to speed him up or get him rattled. He’s truly an intriguing prospect.
Jayden Williams Guard (Team Different)- Williams’s stroke has become one of the best in the region. Once he gets into rhythm his confidence shoots up tremendously. He can drop it from the catch and shoot position or off the bounce. This will help in years to come as his game continues to develop.
Seek Zongo Forward (Team Different)- The wire forward can have a scary future. He can score from all three levels and seems to be a problem in the open floor. On defense he challenges shots and helps out on the glass. His big was a 13 point outing against Team Delaware.
Mike Green Forward (Team Different)- Green is another versatile forward for Team Different. Like Zongo he also showed he could score it from anywhere on the floor. At this stage he’s a little stronger than Zongo but also looks like a good long term prospect. His best outing was 12 points against NJ Bulldogs.
Rahmir Barno Guard (Philly Triple Threat)- He broke on the national scene at the Future Phenom Camp and has never turned back. Barno scoring was on full display at the AC Showcase. His trey ball was dropping heavy (3 treys) against NY Rens as he finished with 17 markers. When that is falling it opens up his driving game which can be explosive at times.
Mark Butler Guard (Philly Triple Threat)- Butler team with Barno to form one of the best backcourts in this event. He’s a playmaker and has a unique feel for the game. He can also score in bunches when needed. He averaged double figures including a 16 point outburst in their victory against NY Rens.

Ahmad Nowell (Fidonce)

The 6th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the top teams in the region. Here’s our first look at our top performers.

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Ahmad Nowell Forward (Fidonce) – Nowell was like Lebron James in the 6th Grade division. He could dribble, pass, score, and defend and was dominating at times that we watched. We saw him make a no look pass that resulted in an And 1 and we also liked the fact that he moved without the ball when one time we saw him make a great cut to the basket and his teammate found him for an easy bucket. He was very hard to contain and he was at his best attacking the rim. He finished with 10 points in the championship and 17 points in their semifinal win against the Gauchos where he lived at the FT line.

Khaafiq Myers Guard (Fidonce) – Myers seems to get better and better every time we see him play. He is a combo guard that can get buckets while always making the right play. He can finish in transition around defenders. He also attacks the basket in the half court using his nice handle. Khaafiq has a nice stroke from the FT line and he can knock down the 3ball. He had 14 points in the Championship and 10 points in the Semifinal.
Ryfee Gordan Forward (Fidonce) – Ryfee is a big body wing that is relentless attacking the rim and rebounding. He gets a lot of rebound put backs and we saw him convert some and ones. He makes him free throws and he knocked down 2 FT’s to ice the championship win. Defensively Gordan blocks a lot of shots. He had 9 points in both games we watched.
Umar Sabree Guard (Fidonce) – Umar is a combo guard that can really score the ball. He is the team’s best three-point shooter as he connecting on three long balls in the championship. He is tough as nails and what we like he is confident in his abilities because when he is off he just keeps coming at you putting pressure on the defense. He tallied 11 points in the championship.
Nigel James Guard (New Heights) – James is a fiery competitor on both ends of the floor. Even though he was smaller in stature he challenged bigger guards defensively and on one play we saw him pick the opposing PG at half court and go the other way for a one handed scoop finish that resulted in an And 1. He has a nice floater and can knock down the 3ball. Nigel is lightning fast with the ball and he makes his New Heights team go. He finished with 19 points and 12 points in the games we watched.
Brenden Hamilton Forward (New Heights) – Hamilton is a strong forward that is all over the floor on defense. He is good at anticipating passes and jumping the passing lanes for steals. On offense he moves well without the ball and is at his best attacking the rim. He had 14 points and 10 points in the games we saw.

Taj Bryant Guard (New Heights) – Bryant is a quick guard that pushes the rock. He is a one man press break that loves to attack the basket but if you play the drive he can knock down the long ball. We also like his court vision and passing ability as we saw him make a really nice one handed bounce pass that resulted in an assist. He likes to get his teammates easy buckets.

Steven Williams Forward (New Heights) – Williams controlled the paint for his squad. He is a space eater so once he gained position in the low block he usually converted with his soft touch around the basket. Steven got a lot of rebound put backs and defensively he made it tough for the opposing team to get to the rim.

Khalid Sanders

The 6th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the top teams in the region. Here’s our second look at our top performers.

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Khalid Sanders Forward (Hilltoppers) – Sanders is a long wing that is growing into his body. He rebounds the ball well and has a soft touch around the rim. He is active on both ends and he has the ability to be a versatile defender. We also like the energy he plays with and are excited to track his development down the road. He tallied 14 points in the game we watched.

Julian Granville Guard (Hilltoppers) – Julian is a tall PG that has nice poise and a high basketball IQ. With his size he can easily see over the defense to make the necessary passes to his teammates in scoring position. Granville does a nice job keeping his dribble, getting into the paint, and driving and dishing to the open man. We also like that he gets to the rim and can finish efficiently with either hand.
Carlos Rodriquez Guard (Hilltoppers) – Carlos is one of the most skilled and smartest on the floor. He plays hard and he can really score the ball from all three levels. He can move over to the point but looks his best playing off the ball as a primary scorer. He finished with 10 points in the game we watched but he has the ability to really fill up the score book.
Danny Carbuccia Forward (Gauchos) – Danny is a versatile wing that gets it done on both ends of the floor. When the other team is pressing he can play the role of a point forward and bring the ball up the floor and get his team into an offensive set. He can attack the rim or knock down the 3ball. He has a good feel for the game and a high IQ. Carbuccia finished with 12 points including 2 threes in the semifinal.

Johnuel Fland Guard (Gauchos) – Fland is the floor general of his team. He is more of a pass first PG that enjoys getting his teammates involved. He is not flashy but just seems to always make the right play. He has a calming demeanor and you can tell he feels comfortable playing with his teammates. In the Semifinal he had to take on more a scoring role and he had 14 points with 2 three pointers.

Shamar Cox Guard (NJ Bulldogs) – Cox is a PG with a nice handle that attacks the basket. He is a good passer that knows how to navigate the floor with his dribble and is crafty with the ability to get his shot of against taller defenders. We love the fact that he talks to his teammates and directs traffic getting everyone in the right position on the floor so he can execute the offensive play. We saw him hit a defender with a crossover step back jumper. He also showed that he can knock down the long ball as he had two of them in the game we watched finishing with 10 total points.

Jayden Ramirez

The 6th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the top teams in the region. Here’s our final look at our top performers.

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Jayden Ramirez Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Jayden is a long scoring guard that looks like he has a high ceiling and will be a prospect down the road. He finished through contact and has a nice floater off the bounce. He can knock down the 3ball and also has some nice passing skills. With his size he rebounds his position well and can be a lock down defender. Ramirez finished with 13 points in the game we saw.

Sincere Henderson Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Every team is better off if they have a true PG and Henderson was that for his Hawks team. He looked to facilitate first and get his teammates involved but showed that he could score if needed. He made one of the better passes we saw when he completed an around the back pass off the dribble for an easy bucket.
Braylan Rituo Forward (Riverside Hawks) – Braylan was one of the better long term prospects we saw in the 6th grade division. He is raw offensively but he showed he can finish around the rim. With his length he caused problems defensively for his opponents clogging up the paint blocking shots and getting rebounds. He was in foul trouble for most of the game we watched but we feel we will be hearing a lot about this kid down the road.
Elijah Reid Guard (Nova 94 Feet) – Elijah had a good showing in the game we watched. He can knock down the long ball and he showed how he excels in transition. He has good size for a guard and is very active on defense. With his nice handle he can navigate the floor and Reid has above average court vision as we saw him make a nifty one handed tough pass to get an easy assist. He had 9 points in the game we watched.
Kameron Courtney Guard (Nova 94 Feet) – Courtney is a big guard that is at his best attacking the basket. This allows him to get to the FT line where he can convert. He also crashes the glass helping his team rebound. Kameron also showed he can stretch the floor as he buried two 3 pointers in the game we watched. He tallied 10 points against the NJ Bulldogs.

Chancellor Perkins Guard (Nova 94 Feet) – Every team needs a floor spacer or a zone buster the way the game is being played today. Perkins is that guy for his team. He showed his ability to stroke it from deep in the game we watched knocking down three 3 pointers finishing the game with 11 points.
London Carson Guard (NJ Bulldogs) – Carson is a nice wing guard that is one of the primary scorers on his squad. He moves well without the ball freeing himself up for open shots. He can score from all three levels with range out to the three point line as we knock down two in the game we watched. London finished with 12 points against Nova 94 Feet.

Joe Jackson

The 5th Grade Division of the AC Showcase gave a us a look at the Baby Ballers Of The Future. Here’s a look at some of the top performers.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 5th Grade Top Performers

Joe Jackson Guard (Silverback Nationals)- Jackson has a stellar weekend during the AC Showcase. When he wasn’t knocking down the trey ball he was driving the lane scoring floaters and getting to the charity stripe. He scored 13 points (3 treys) in the semi-finals and 21 markers (2 treys) in the championship including sealing the game with clutch free throws.

Junie Byas Forward (Silverback Nationals)- The lanky forward can handle the rock while also making plays. He had a huge weekend while helping the Silverbacks take home the crown. He scored 20 points in the semifinals and in the championship. He was a matchup nightmare all weekend.

Eric Fagin Guard (NY Gauchos)- Fagin showed he could handle the rock and score the ball from the wing. He scored 13 markers in the semi-finals and a team high 16 points in the finals. I like how he stepped up when things got real.

Ty Turnage Guard (NY Gauchos)- Tai “Turn-Up” dazzled the crowd with his ball handling and play making. He also showed off his range knocking down a couple of treys in the semi-finals. He’s one of the best play makers around.

Brandon Stores Guard (NY Gauchos)- Stores was another Gauchos guard that can score the rock he averaged double figures over the weekend. In the games we saw he chartered 11 points in the semi-finals and 12 markers in the championship loss.

Chris Suber Guard (NY Gauchos)- Suber didn’t score as much as they past events but he still made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. He attacked the lane while setting up teammates and was a serious problem on defense especially in the passing lanes.

Kaleb Popotte Guard (Westside Warriors)- I will tell you now to keep an eye on this kid. He has some serious bounce to his game. His handle is supreme while scoring the rock or dropping dimes. If you back off he can also drain the jumper. He was huge in the Blue Division Championship scoring 16 points including 3 bombs from behind the arc.

Jermel Thomas Guard (Westside Warriors)- One of the most flamboyant guards in the country, Thomas loves the Spotlight stage. In AC he once again proved to be worth the price of admissions. He carved through the defense with his slick handle whole also dropping some smooth dimes including a few of the no look fashion. His high scoring game was 11 markers versus Elm City.

Tristin Gregoire Guard (Westside Warriors)- Gregoire came up big in the championship game. He knocked down a few outside shot and scored in transition while finishing with 13 points. He teamed with Thomas and Popotte to form a serious 3 head monster.

Tashawn Jeffrey Guard (The Truth)- Jeffrey was the best scorer in this division. The powerful guard averaged over 20 points including a 25-point performance in their first matchup against Westside Warriors and then dropped another 20 against the Warriors in a championship loss.

Dante Hodges Forward (The Truth)- The strong forward was built like Charles Barkley and managed to also post serious numbers. He bullied his way to a double figure averaged including 16 points in their championship loss. He’s a load to handle especially when going downhill.
