Team IZOD Ready For AC!

The Basketball Spotlight 8th Grade Division is something serious. It features some of the top teams in the country and should be something to watch. Here’s a look at who is coming down to Atlantic City for this showdown.

Atlantic City Showcase 8th Grade Preview

Team IZOD: The Supreme Team enters the AC Showcase with several titles under their belt including the Clash For The Cup and Maryland Invitational. Now they must step up to the plate against the big dogs G3IE and WACG. You already know the stacked roster that this team sports. Now we will see if they can continue their winning ways. Keep an eye Nazi Reid, Atiba Taylor, Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad.

We All Can Go All Stars: Yes WACG is headed east with revenge on their mind. Team IZOD ended their national title dreams with a final four defeat now they are looking for the big payback. Their roster is loaded with national talent and we know they will be ready to explode. They feature Marvin Bagley, L'Christian Smithj, TJ Moss, Mark Freeman, Camron Johnson, Gavin Schoenwald and Darius Garland.

G3IE: Attention this team plays defense like no other in the country. I can’t wait to see them lock horns with Team IZOD, WACG and the Playaz. I know that they don’t play any games when they step on the floor. They are very old schooled. Look for Kevin Easley, Antwaan Cushingberry and K.J Coleman.

Playaz: PBC will be an exciting team to watch and with the addition of Markquis Nowell there’s no telling how far they can go. We anticipate them to go up and down all weekend and leave everything on the floor. Ja’Quaye James has been scoring the ball a lot lately.

Hoop Heaven Elite: This squad formerly SHA Elite brings a calculated style full of deep bombs and backdoor cuts. They won the Clash For The Cup Orange Division crown and have a chance to win another one in AC. They are the team you hate to see in your pool when the schedule comes out.

We R 1: The Delaware boys have took home a couple of championships and big man Jamal Whittlesey has been balling. I like their chances in the Orange Division of this event especially if Chris Cropper and Darius Kinnel come to play.

Mass Shooting Stars: I like the way this team has been looking the last few times I saw them. Paul Durkee continues to shine and DeVandre Edmonds has found his stride. We look for them to make a deep run in the Orange Division.

Team DEMI: Yes Team DEMI returns with the top backcourt in New England in Shandon Brown and Maurice Works. The cousins give defenses fits and have DEMI in a position to win most games.

New Heights: I haven’t seen this bunch this year but New Heights is known for bringing a good product to the floor. Coach Of The Year winner Rahme Anderson supposed to be back the controls and all he wants to do is win.

Gym Rats: The Syracuse boys are another team many don’t want to see. Their backcourt of Mike Adams and Charles Pride are one of the best in the region and capable of opening up against any team in this event.

CMEK Bulls: The Bulls had some good moments during their last showing at the Spotlight Clash for the Cup. I hope they can carry their momentum to Atlantic City because the competition down there is very thick.

Boston Spartans: The return of Dominic Jones has the team looking for the winners circle. The have the other pieces to go around the talented wing guard to get the job done. The last time they were in the AC Showcase Kahari Buford broke the Spotlight record scoring 51 points.

Team Twelve: This team brings the energy on both ends and have a dynamic duo of Theodore Senior and La’Vauhn Miller. They are still in search of their first Spotlight championship and they do have a chance in the Orange Division.

We All In: Yes Wall 2 Wall and ESYC has combined to form this new squad. Both teams had some good pieces last year so this should be interesting to watch. We will feel you in after watching them rock.

WHO BUT ME

Yo wassup it's your boy Mr. Jellyfam signing on.

Oh man this week was a week of lessons to be learned. I got a lot of schooling this week about politics that go along with being a basketball player I guess "whatever" I just gotta keep working and play my position. It will work out for me.

Getting past all the craziness going on during this week on weather I was gonna play with the 9th grade team or 8th grade team, regardless I had to get ready to play in our tournament that the PLAYAZ host; The Spring Fling. We ended up playing up and went 2-1 and lost to the team that took the chip. So we had an ok weekend I would say. I had a lot of fun just being in the gym with my bros. from Playazfam. Watching them turn up on some new competition. We been going at each other all week in practice, so I think we all needed to see some new faces. I would say the tournament was great.

We all got to see where we are against other AAU programs and what to expect from this upcoming season. This week is my last week of school before our lil spring break, so I am planning ahead getting my week lined up. Can't wait, always good to have some time off from school. LOL much needed!!! With that being said I am out. Atlantic City Showcase this weekend. Turn up time.

AC Showcase Rules and Regulations

Refunds: There will be no refunds for any team pulling out of this event.

Forfeits: Forfeits will be enforced to keep the games on time. Any teams that purposely forfeits because of non pool advancement will not be allowed to enter any other Basketball Spotlight Events. Forfeits are worth 15 points for the winning team.

Playing Times: All Games Use Stop Clocks

10U Division- 2 (12 Minutes Halves)
11U Division- 2 (13 Minute Halves)
12U Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves)
13U Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves)
14U Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves)

Fouls:Foul Out- 5 Fouls
1-1 Bonus- 10 Fouls
Double Bonus- 13 Fouls

Game Time and Grace Period:Each Team is responsible of being at the gym at least 15 minutes before their scheduled game. There will be no grace period allowed for any games. There will only be a 5 minute warm up time before the game and 2 minutes at halftime.

Overtime: 3 minutes.

Time Outs:
There will two full timeouts a half (4 per game) for each team. No carry over and no 30 seconds time outs.

Uniforms: Each Team must have two sets of uniforms (light and dark).

Mercy Rule:
If a team is ahead by 20 points or more with 2 minutes remaining in the contest the game will be called at that point. The team ahead by 20 will be awarded the victory.

Player Ejections:
Any player ejected from a game will be suspended the next game. Any player involved in or ejected for fighting will be suspended the remainder of the tournament.

Birth Certificates:All teams must have birth certificates for each player on their roster in case of a challenge. Each team will be allowed unlimited grade exceptions. Grade Exceptions must have paperwork. AAU Rules are enforced in terms of age.

Challenges: Must be made before the game and will cost the challenging team $60. If the challenging team is correct their money will be refunded.

Daily Admissions: $10 per day ( No Weekend Passes)

Tie Breaker Criteria (In Order):1. Won-Loss Record
2. Head to Head Competition
3. Point System (Margin Of Victory)- Any team winning by more than 15 points will only be rewarded 15 points for the victory. So if you win by 20 points you still will be rewarded only 15 points.
4. Least Amount of Points allowed in Pool Play
5. Coin Flip

Attention: Any teams that don't complete the tournament including 3rd Place games will be subject to be omitted from future Basketball Spotlight Events.

Any rules not mentioned above will be worked out fairly at the discretion of the tournament director.

The Atlantic City Showcase has a few very special announcements that concern every team in this event. Please take notice to these listings. Please don’t ignore.

1. ALL TEAMS MUST REGISTER AT ATLANTIC HIGH SCHOOL BEFORE YOUR FIRST GAME. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A RECEIPT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY YOUR FIRST GAME.

Marvin Bagley had the highlight of the day at the 2014 Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase when he put down this monster dunk against Team IZOD in front of a wild crowd. We should also mention that Marvin is a 6'9 eighth grader and many consider him to be the #1 player in the Class of 2018 Basketball Rankings.

Gauchos Capture Title

In a rematch of the Tip Off Classic Championship the Gauchos came back from a huge deficit to defeat Riverside Hawks 49-37 to win the Basketball Spotlight 4th Grade AC Showcase Championship. This was classic NY battle that brought back memories of the glory days of these two programs. Congrats for both teams for making it to the finals.

In the battle of two national heavyweights We All Can Go All Stars outlasted Team Glory 49-37 to win the Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 5th Grade Championship.
