Marquise Walker and Jeremiah Francis

Marquise Walker of Chicago and Jeremiah Francis of Columbus, Ohio went head to head at the 2014 BBall Spotlight Future Phenom Camp in DC this weekend. They played in a showcase game and the Top 20 All Star Game. The two guards were the top 2019 floor generals in attendance at the camp, and are both nationally ranked.

Marquise Walker is more of a natural scorer than Jeremiah is at this point. Francis is the definition of a floor general and shows better in an organized setting with familiar teammates. Having said that, both lead guards brought their A Games to the BBall Spotlight Future Phenom Camp. While many players shy away from the best competition, both Walker and Francis embraced the challenge of going head to head. The future is bright for these young point guards, this video is only a sample of what these point guards will do in coming years, enjoy!!!

Tariq Ingraham (Delaware)

The Inaugural Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp opened this weekend at the New 24 Facility in District Heights, MD. This event had loads of talent especially in the Class Of 2019. First we will take a look at the usual suspects that are been to Basketball Spotlight events in the past.

Class 2019 Top Performers (Usual Suspects)

Tariq Ingraham Forward (Delaware)- This past weekend Ingraham was a total beast on the blocks. He played against help defense, double teams and triple teams. Once he received the rock deep he exploded to the hole like he was expected. His moves are quicker and he’s making them with supreme confidence. He also will shoot the short jumper at the drop of a dime. He helped his team take home the camp championship.

Justin Moore Guard (Maryland)- Moore has developed a national name, therefore he had a target on his back at this event. The best opposing player guarded Moore and vice versa but the Maryland native answered the bell. The physical guard broke through the defense and finished with finesse. He has the enact ability of making the correct play even if it sacrifices his own scoring chances. Whatever play he decides to make doesn’t change that his presence alone impacts the game.

Mahki Mitchell Forward (Maryland)- The forward has taken his wing game to another level. He showed he could score it from all three levels and even create for his teammates. He made lunch meat of many defenders that tried to check him. But you can’t blame them because who can really contain a 6’6 forward with pure wing skills. He’s a match up nightmare. As a lad many onlookers frowned about him wandering on the perimeter instead of staying in the post but I guess Mitchell knew better because his curiosity is paying off.
Dontae Scott Forward (Pennsylvania)- This baby giraffe continues to grow and impress us with his play. He’s becoming more mindful of taking care of the rock with attacking but still isn’t afraid to catch and shoot immediately from 3 point land. He beginning to play above the rim on a regular basis and has shown more toughness playing post defense. Every high school coach in attendance had to write his name down in their notepad. If you look a prospect up in the Webster Dictionary you might find a picture of Scott.
Anthony Johnson Guard (Pennsylvania)- AJ Johnson came to the Future Phenom Camp on a mission and delivered. He’s a natural big guard but didn’t mind crashing the glass like a big forward. His strength and body control are his biggest attributes. Even when he missed chippies under the basket he reacted quickly and attempted put backs until it fell. He left the camp early with an ankle injury but still finished as one of the top players in the event.

Christian Depollar Forward (Maryland)- Depollar is now sporting a new look. He trimmed the baby fat and now stands a lean and mean 6’4. This new look has taken his game to another level. He gets it done from all three levels and finishes strong in traffic. We said two years ago that this time would come and now it has arrived for Depollar. He was one of the most consistent players at this event over the weekend.

Marvin Price Forward (Maryland)- Price is no stranger to Basketball Spotlight as he showed dominance on our circuit with Teaqm Melo. At the Future Phenom Camp his play was also stellar. He got busy on the post on both ends of the floor by rebounding and scoring the rock. He's a physical specimen that's showing strides of moving to the perimeter. He made a huge plunge by reclassifying into the Class of 2019.

Korpin Spencer (Kentucky)

The Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom cam was loaded with talent especially in the Class of 2019. The rising 8th Graders featured several top players and here’s Part 2 of the players that have been featured on our website in the past.

Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp Class of 2019 Top Performers Part 2

Korbin Spencer Guard (Kentucky)- Spencer returned to the East Coast for the Future Phenom Camp and showed some maturity to his game. He slowdown a little on the hot dogging and made the substance in his game speak. Spencer surveyed the floor like a true general before dropping some great passes. When he wasn’t looking for teammates he was draining his jumper or scoring in traffic. He seems to be very focused for a great 8th grade season. Good showing kid.

Rob Higgins Guard (New Jersey)- Higgins a true Spotlight veteran and the Jersey Force product surprised the field with his play. He has the little bot next door look but that’s the calm before the storm. Once Higgins starts attacking he gives you a flurry of creative moves, passes and buckets in a hurry. He play caught the eye of several scouts in the building and launched him into the Top 20 All Star Game.

Mark Bradshaw Guard (Pennsylvania)- I have to start off by saying welcome back Mr. Bardshaw. He had his confidence flowing in the scoring column and used supreme body control. He jump shot was falling and he showed more creative control off the bounce. The stage was big and the competition was thick but Bradshaw came out swinging. The southpaw was on his game. He teamed with Marquise Walker to form one of the best back courts at the camp.

Che Evans Forward (Maryland)- Evans passes the look contest as an intriguing prospect. But on this weekend he let his game do the talking. The lanky forward can get it done creating in the mid-range and finishing at the tin. He also can step back past the 3 point line and knock it down. Don’t be surprised if he game and name explodes nationally next season.

Kasim Tolliver Guard (Pennsylvania)- The game I watched Tolliver was a blood hound on defense. He forced the opposing point guard to turn over the pill and used it to capitalize for his team. He still attempts to control the tempo of the game which his difficult in this environment.

Jaheim Tanksley Guard (New Jersey)- I was a little nervous to see Tanksley bang because I haven’t seen him play against this level of competition in a while. But I must say the Garden State floor general once known as the “Chosen One” was ready to rumble. Jaheim secret to his success was his quick first step when driving. He blew past several defenders and left them watching as he entered the land of giants. Once he got inside he used his basketball IQ to make the right play. He’s learned not to over penetrate or force the action too much.

Mahkel Mitchell Forward (Maryland)- Mahkel has settled down in a post a little more lately which fits his game. I like his maneuvering in the paint and shot making skills when facing the basket. On defense he locate shots well in terms of getting blocks and grabbing boards. I think his next step must be wanting to bang a little more with the opposition.

Jamil Riggins Forward (Pennsylvania)-The high flying lefty lives for the dynamic finish. Therefore he thrives in the open floor and in transition. He does need to pick his spots a little better and develop his ball handling skills on the perimeter. Right now he’s a good energy guy to have on your roster.

Shermick Lofton Forward (Pennsylvania)- Every event needs a little heat and this kid Lofton loves to explode on the floor. He has Jamal Mashburn type build, still a little raw but has a good motor. He plays with fire that can be looked at as confrontational but he seems like he’s trying to raise the level of play of his teammates. He’s another player that might appear on the radar this coming season.

Jeremiah Francis Made His Spotlight Debut

The Inaugural Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp opened this weekend at the New 24 Facility in District Heights, MD. This event had loads of talent especially in the Class Of 2019. Next we will take a look at some of the top players from around the country that made their Spotlight debut.

Class 2019 Top Performers (Fresh Faces) Part 1

Jeremiah Francis Guard (Ohio)- Francis has a national name so he decided to let the East Coast see his skills and delivered. When he is rocking with his All Ohio Red squad Francis’s job is to set up teammates and run the show but in this event he let his hair down a little. The imposing guard still drop dimes for time to time but he also looked to score the rock himself. He gave the crowd a taste of his slick ball handling including crossovers and spin moves which resulted in buckets. He used that massive frame to absorb the contact and still finish. He’s all around showing earned him the Playmaker of the Camp Award.

Dale Hewitt Forward (Canada)- Hewitt is a certified leaper that gets out on the break. He runs the lanes well and will go up top and bang home a dunk like he did in one of his contest. I like his speed on the perimeter and his willingness to go hard at the tin. This kids motor alone will take him a long way. Could be another high flyer from north of the border.

Tajay Martin Forward (Canada)- Martin is built like a linebacker but has enough versatility to attack the hole off the bounce. He loves driving hard right and using the floater or finishing through contact at the tin. He’s another good performer in a long list of ballers from north of the border. Martin’s play launched him into the Top 20 All Star Game.

Christian Nguyen Guard (Virginia)- This Virginia guard is in full gear once he got the rock. He pushed the rock up the floor with a hurry with his head up looking for teammates. One thing to his credit is that he still has the presence of mind to survey the floor and slow things down if necessary. I don’t know how many other scouts noticed his play but he caught our attention at the Future Phenom Camp.

Eric Dixon Forward (Pennsylvania)- The big forward impressed us his play on the blocks. He played with a high motor while getting good post position and scoring. He will be a player that we are keeping our eye going into next season.

Chris Ings Guard (Pennsylvania)- Ings played on a squad with some aggressive guards but still managed to make his presence felt. I like how he attacked the basket and also played off the ball. He’s young so his body is still developing but once he’s finished product he should be one of the next upcoming Philly guard.

Marquise Walker (Illinois)

The Inaugural Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp opened this weekend at the New 24 Facility in District Heights, MD. This event had loads of talent especially in the Class Of 2019. Next we will take a look at some of the top players from around the country that made their Spotlight debut.

Class 2019 Top Performers (Fresh Faces) Part 2

Marquise Walker Guard (Illinois)- Another top flight guard with national rep ripped up the Future Phenom Camp. Walker has been playing red hot all summer and this event wasn’t an exception. He shot the three ball with confidence and finished at the tin like a grown man. An added addition to Walker’s game is his post up play. Anytime a smaller guard attempts to check him he will take him on the blocks Gary Payton style. He had a few scoring flurries and hit a game winning shot during a heated contest. The Chi-town fire came out of this kid.

James Bishop Guard (Maryland)- The combo guard put up serious numbers at this camp including a game in the high 30’s. He gets it done off the bounce and scores it in a hurry. This type of event is not for the passive players so Bishop fits this mold well. The left reminds me of high scoring former NBA guard Cutino Mobley. His unique scoring ability guided his team to the camp championship. Mr. Bishop gets buckets and left as the camp’s MVP.

Anthony Byrd Guard (Pennsylvania)- Byrd is a great last name for this guard because he flies when he has the rock. He has supreme quickness when penetrating and going east and west. He blew past defenders with ease and finished off plays with authority. Back peddling defenders in transition at his mercy when pushing the rock. He made it his business to ignite the flow of the offense and was always in attack mode.

Isaiah Moseley Guard (Canada)- Moseley was one of the top scoring guards at this event. The Canadian product showed some serious explosiveness in the half court and in the transition. His physical frame made penetrating the lane very easy and he also showed the ability to get his teammates involved. At his point in his career this kid looks like he has the total package. James

Lamareon Guard (Maryland)- This lefty gets end to end in a hurry. He has a point guard build but a scoring guard mentality. He’s capable of running off five buckets in a row in a heartbeat. He does need to be careful not to get out of control at times. He was one of the best finishers in the building.

Cameron Savage Guard (Maryland)- Savage is a prototype old school point guard because he has a pass first mentality. His feel for the game turns him into a drive, draw and dish type of guard. He takes good care of the pill and doesn’t take many chances. The scorers on his squad had to enjoy playing with this unselfish floor general. On defense he was a ball hawk that was determined to turn over the opposing ball handler.

Desire Dejean Guard (Maryland)- Dejean is a lanky floor general with good court vision and long arms similar to Rajon Rondo. The only different is this kid can hit the outside shot. I love his approach to the game because he doesn’t waste time trying to be fancy. He’s very fundamentally sound for his age. I want to see more of this kid.

Jaden Springer (North Carolina)

The Inaugural Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp took place this past weekend and was loaded with talent. The Class of 2020 had several known names from the Spotlight including a few making their debut in this class. Here’s our look at the rising 7th Grade Usual Suspects.

Class Of 2020 Top Performers (Usual Suspects)

Jaden Springer Guard (North Carolina)- Few players entered this camp with a bigger national rep than Springer but that still didn’t stop this kid from leaving it all on the floor. Jaden combines a skilled game with a serious work ethic and motor. He can score it from all three levels, is a terrific finisher and good decision maker. What’s even scarier is that Springer is young for his grade which means if he followed the reclassifying trend he would be a rising 6th grader. Wow imagine that!

AJ Hoggard Guard (Pennsylvania)- When Hoggard announced he was joining the Class of 2020 one had to think that this would thrust him into the elite status. Well this past weekend he showed flashes on this greatness during this event. His size and power are once again a factor in his game in terms of driving by, looking and passing over the defense. Few players have the feel for the game this kid displays. He was also able to unleash the scoring aspect of his game.

Jordan Toles Guard (Maryland)- I had a chance to really study Toles game and he’s a lot more skilled than I saw previously. I like the height on his jump shot and the improvement he’s showing in terms of handling the rock. It’s well known that he possesses one of the top motors in the country which is something that cannot be taught. This kid has a chance to be something special.

Tyler Brelsford Guard (Maryland)- Let’s kill the daddy ball and favoritism talk because once again this guard proved to be one of the best in the building. Brelsford made his 2020 debut and was a dominant force at the Future Phenom Camp. He looked good handling the rock around the high screen and setting up teammates. What was also noticeable was his willingness to score the ball himself. He has confidence in his outside and ability to finish in traffic. An early look has him and Hoggard battling for top point guard honors in the country.

Terrence Williams Forward (Maryland)- Williams made an appearance on Sunday and played in the 2019 level even though he officially reclassified. Once on the floor he was difficult to handle especially in the post. He has added explosiveness and quickness to his array of moves. His play helped his team win the camp championship. I can only imagine how dominate he will look on the Class of 2020 level. I feel comfortable saying that he’s a Top 5 prospect right now.

Zahree Harrison Guard (Pennsylvania)- Harrison is no stranger to this type of setting as he has visited camps all over the country. He used this experience to his advantage. His team featured some of the top scorers in the camp therefore he was willing to concentrate on running the point and passing the rock. Most of his scoring opportunities came on jumpers after ball reversal and in transition. He’s very crafty but does need to work on his speed a little so he can separate from quick defenders more often.

Canin Reynolds Guard (Maryland)- If you want quickness here is the guy you are looking for. Reynolds is a cleaver ball handler that can fill the role of either guard spots. He has some instincts of a true floor general but can transform into scoring mold very quickly. I look forward to watching him explode on the scene next basketball season.

Elijah Malloy Forward (Delaware)- Malloy was as dominate on the offensive end as I’ve seen in the past but he’s a baby and still developing. I love this kids motor and eagerness to learn the game. On the defensive side was an intimating force on the blocks by blocking shots and rebounding. The book on this kid is still be written meaning we have a long way to before we see a finished product. Delaware had an interesting prospect in this kid.

Niels Lane Guard (New Jersey)- Lane adapted well to this atmosphere was one the coaches favorite players on the squad. Lane had his Scottie Pippen going on all he showed all the facets of his game. He was able to score the ball but also showed prowess on the defensive end. His all-around play was recognized as he received the Best Teammate Leader Award.

Xavier Pina Guard (New Jersey)- Once Pina adjusted to the speed of this event his was very productive. The sharp shooter got going one of the games while I was watching. He looked better when he was in a catch and shoot position. He also showed the ability to create plays for himself and teammates. His finishing at the cup will become for effective once he gets a little stronger.

Keyshawn Johnson (Maryland)

The Inaugural Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp took place this past weekend and was loaded with talent. The Class of 2020 also included several players making their Spotlight debuts. Here are the fresh faces to Basketball Spotlight that impressed us on this level.

Class of 2020 Top Performers (Fresh Faces) Part 1

Keyshawn Johnson Guard (Maryland)- A registration class error is the only reason this kid wasn’t in the Top 20 game. He was very dominant from the start of the camp playing both guard positions. His crossover dribble sets up most of his moves. He then gives a shooting touch and form from the perimeter while displaying a tight handle. I like the size he has for the position and seems to have a good work ethic that could equate to a high profile prospect down the road. This kid definitely made a name for himself.

Cameron Byers Forward (Maryland)- Byers is another talented forward from this loaded DMV area. He’s a physical inside force with the touch of a wing player. He doesn’t mind banging on the boards and charging the lane like a mack truck. As he moves forward in his progress his skill set will need to continue to develop which is natural for a post player this age. He’s an instant impact player when he steps on the floor.

Tristan Maxwell Forward (North Carolina)- The Carolina product can be really labeled as a big guard because of his skill set. He makes it his business to finish off plays in transition while demonstrating great body control. He has the enact ability to change his shot in mid-air which throws off shot blockers. I also saw him show off his handle by splitting the defense and throwing a no look pass. His toughness can never be questioned being the son of former NBA great Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell. Keep an eye on this kid.

Jalen Cone Guard (North Carolina)- Cone is another NC product with a mean ratchet. He had one of the best strokes in the class. But as soon as you label him as a spot up shooter Cone will drop it on the deck and blow right past a defender. When the weekend was done I was convinced he was a three level capable scorer.

Tarik Booker Forward (Indiana)- Booker is a huge space eater that’s moves defenders easy on the post before scoring. He also wanders out to 3 point land and won’t hesitate to launch a jumper from there. He is very light on his feet for his size and should trim up before reaching high school. The heartland of basketball has another good prospect on the horizon.

Timmy Anderson Guard (Nevada)- Anderson is built like a full back but has the poise and feel for the game as a point guard. While some players are overly aggressive and selfish in this setting Anderson lets the game come to him while surveying the floor. He should be a name you look out for on the West Coast.

Tejon Ford Guard (Maryland)- The speedster with the rock is an instant playmaker. He spent the weekend blowing past defenders especially in transition. Some other guards in the DMV get more attention than this kid but he’s not one to be slept on. They say speed kills and this kid has plenty of it.

Justin Lewis (Maryland)

The Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp Class of 2020 had a lot of talent. Now we will continue to our look into the fresh faces that have entered their first Basketball Spotlight event.

Class Of 2020 Top Performers (Fresh Faces) Part 2

Justin Lewis Forward (Maryland)- Lewis is a wiry hybrid forward that plays the inside role on both ends of the floor. He gets up and down like a deer and shows some tendency to want to put the ball on the floor. I loved his passion and size has such a young player. You can add a few more inches to this frame and he has a chance to be a prospect to talk about later. Reminds me of a young Amile Jefferson.

Ryan Conway Guard (Maryland)-It’s very hard to peg Conway because he has a guard’s size but rebounds and scores in traffic like a forward. This kid is as strong as an ox and uses it to this advantage. Once he gets his hands on the rock he uses superb body control to finish. On defense he takes pride in locking down opponents on and off the ball.

RJ Davis Guard (New York)- Davis has a great concept for the game especially from a point guard position. He plays within himself and makes it his mission to make teammates better. The defense couldn’t speed him up or rattle this youngster. He’s a very focused guard that you will be hearing a lot from in the future.

Darryl Preddy Forward (Maryland)- Preddy is a wing scorer that could be defined as a slasher. He shows good quickness when sipping through the defense and making his moves. I like the athleticism he shows at the cup especially in transition.

Jordan McPhatter Guard (North Carolina)- McPhatter is a sparkplug guard with a lot of spunk. He looks to get teammates involved and enjoys the role as a true point but we turn up the scoring in a hurry if needed. North Carolina has numerous players on the horizon and Jordan is one that's in the mix and should continue to make noise.

Garrott Ott-Large Forward (Indiana)- This kid forward is versatile because he can get it done inside or step to the perimeter to nail an outside shot. He uses his basketball IQ to negate the athleticism and quickness of most opponents. His play launched him caught the eyes of multiple media outlets.

Kyree Banks Guard (Maryland)- Banks is an energetic player on both ends but he showed me that he is also capable of picking his spots when attacking. He also showed that he can embrace the pure point guard role of driving, drawing and dishing the rock. On defense he pressures the rock for the full 94 feet. His passion cannot be hidden.

Trey Patterson (New Jersey)

The Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp had some talented players in the Class of 2021. There were some serious battles and new players emerging from this event. Here's a look at the rising 6th Graders with Spotlight experience that impressed us in District Heights, MD.

Future Phenom Class of 2021 Top Performers Part 1

Trey Patterson Forward (New Jersey)- Not many players reclassify and automatically shoot to the top of their new class but Patterson may be an exception. He made his 2021 debut at the Future Phenom Camp and was a dominating force. The wiry forward stands close to 6'4 and sports a size 15 shoe. During this event he was virtually unstoppable at times especially when his outside shot was falling. I also loved how he played with a high motor and was willing to rebound. This youngster’s future is definitely going to be bright and we might be looking at a national star in a few years.

Donnell Harris Forward (Florida)- The Sunshine State product stormed through the camp and took home the MVP honor while leading his team to the title. On the defensive end Harris was a rebounding and shoot blocking machine. On offense he's still developing his post moves but he played with so much energy that it was hard to slow him down. He's strong enough to finish in traffic and athletic enough to leap over opposing defenders. This kid camp to the Spotlight to make a national name and achieved his goal.

Jayden Pierre Guard (New Jersey)- Few players focus on defense in this type of environment but Pierre took pride in locking down opponents. He slid his feet well and made ball handlers change direction frequently. He collected steals in the passing and straight stripping the rock. He wasn't shabby on offense either as he was able to penetrate the lane, score or drop dimes. This Garden State guard plays with a lot of fire. He stood toe to toe with some of the top guards in the country.

Carlos Alexander Guard (Maryland)- Alexander has an old soul and play the game this way. He consistently beat defenders with crisp and explosive moves. He's a pass first southpaw therefore he will catch your attention immediately. I love the fight in his game because he hungry to play against all the other guards with the big names. Once he stepped on the floor he came out swinging.

Bryce McGowans Guard (South Carolina)- McGowans has a nice package in his game. First of all he has deep range and high arch on his outside shot. He's a lanky athlete which indicates a few more inches being added to this frame. He scores the ball good from the wing right now be my crystal ball sees that he might end of a point guard before it's said and done. Nice looking prospect.

Ty Wilson Guard (Virginia)- When watching Wilson play it seems like he's moving in slow motion but he's still being effective. He has specialized a few hesitation dribbles and other deceptive moves that keep defenders at bay. He has a unique feel for the game for a player so young.
