The Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Top 10 is listed below. Please remember these rankings are just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Team Durant: This proposed combination of Slam City Elite and Annadale Bulldogs has to be considered one of the top teams in the country. We will get our first look at this bunch during the AC Showcase in a few weeks.

2. New World Unlimited: New World will be looking to get a shot at Team Durant very soon. I don’t have them scheduled for the AC Showcase but that could change at any time.

3. Philly Triple Threat: PTT crashed the party during Winter Warz by bringing home the crown. Now they will be looking to take over the top spot if they win the AC Showcase.

4. Team IZOD: Team IZOD fell short at Winter Warz but I think the return of the #2 Player in the Country Trey Patterson might left their chances.

5. Gauchos: The Choz exploded on the scene with a championship game run during Winter Warz. I like some of the pieces they possess.

6. Hilltoppers Heat: A final four run at Winter Warz has the Heat aiming at the Top 5. They might get in if they mount a good run in Atlantic City.

7. B’More Finest: This tough bunch remains in the in the 6th spot but does have a shot to move up. They might make the trip to Atlantic City.

8. Team Takeover: TTO has a few players that really have us intrigued. They might be following a few of their other teams to Atlantic City.

9. NY Rens: The Rens are really better than what they showed during Winter Warz. Hopefully they come around and start clicking soon.

10. Havoc City: HC should be ready to rumble when the AC Showcase rolls around. I see them moving up this ladder quickly.

Judah And Friends At Nick Sports

Hello Basketball World - This is your fellow basketball player Judah signing in.

A lot has happened since we last spoke and it would take days to talk about it. However, I am going use this time to highlight a little of what happened this week. Weekend – Nickelodeon Press Release and screening of Little Ballers I was involved in the press of Little Ballers and I had several things I had to do for the event. First we got to Chelsea Piers at 1 pm and prepared for what would an incredible evening. I met the stars kid reporters of Nickelodeon, Skylar Diggins was there, Rev Al Sharpton ( A real MVP) was there. Jr. Smith, Galloway, and other stars were there to name a few. A few of our friends from Team Rio also came through to support. We had to do video taping with Byron Davis ( A NBA Legend) as well. Did I mention the food? There was food for Kids. I was very excited. The screening went well. We were able to enjoy the day with some many guests and stars that came through.

Monday – School was great! I actually enjoyed school. I practiced with my Middle School team and prepared for the last 2 games of the season. When I got home, my dad and I went to the gym to work on my endurance. Jump ropes and thread mill was all I did for 2 hours. I was exhausted!

Tuesday – Today was a bit more challenging in school. I was learning about rocks in science. This was not going very well. I had exams that I had to study for Wednesday and some of the things I did not know very well. So I had to use study hall time to get help from teachers who made themselves available to help. I was grateful for that. I did not workout on Tuesday, I had too much homework and studying to do.

Wednesday - I was ready for tests! Well that’s I thought. The ELA and Math tests went well but the Science review on rocks was not good. I knew this was a problem. The worst part is that I have to bring the test grades home to show my parents. I had a game after school – which we won by 35 points. I actually worked out after the game because I felt that I did not get a good run in the game.

Thursday and Friday – I got sick eating some bad pizza on Wednesday night. I haven’t felt this bad in years. I was throwing up and my to ask my dad for help. My mom and dad do not believe in us taking a whole bunch of medicine, only if it is necessary. So he boiled me some Chamomile tea with honey. He told me to drink lots of fluids and let the bug pass through my system. They were right!

Saturday – I stayed home and relaxed. Then went to my friend, dinner birthday party at a restaurant. Of course you know I did not eat much of anything!!!! Well you know this week is the big week – ‘LITTLE BALLERS WILL PREMIER ON NICKOLODEON.

Stay tuned.

The Basketball Spotlight 5th Grade Top 10 is listed below. Please remember these rankings are just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 5th Grade Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Havoc City: HC will be hitting the road next month for a big tournament in Miami. They still have the hottest squad in the region and will be a great addition if they head down to the AC Showcase.

2. Riverside Hawks: The Hawks lost a tough one in the finals of Winter Warz to NY Rens. Their body of work still has them at the #2 spot. A championship at AC Showcase would make things interesting.

3. NY Rens: The Rens moved up 5 spots after winning Winter Warz. Now they will try to reach the top spot after a good showing in Atlantic City.

4. Team Durant: Formerly Banneker Kings, this group have enough weapons to make a run to the championship. They have been every close I the past.

5. Hilltoppers Heat: HH made a good impression at the Winter Warz, making it to the final four. They have a good core group with these young fellas.

6. B’More Finest: I love the way this young tough squad rocks. They impressed us at the Clash and hopefully we see them in Atlantic City.

7. USA National Select: We are ready to see this team return to the Spotlight. The National Select boys are still in search of their first Spotlight title.

8. Team IZOD: TI seems to be getting things together. They had a decent showing at Winter Warz should be in attendance in Atlantic City.

9. 60 Elite: These boys won their two pool games in impressive fashion before leaving the event.

10. NJ Shore Shots: The Shore Shots bring up the rear but do have a few good pieces that might move them up the ladder.

Judah At Modells

Wassup Basketball World, I’m back this week giving a special shoutout to everyone who watched the world premiere of “Little Ballers” on Wednesday and Saturday. It was greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoyed it.

Monday, was a fun day, mainly because I missed school for half the day, because of an Interview I had with Pix 11 which aired the next day. It was a fun experience and we got to actually play basketball on the set. I interviewed along with the director, Ms. Crystal, Coach Billy, his son Bryce, and my lil. bro Cole. After, I went to school and had a really easy rest of the day. After school I stayed at school to watch my Varsity Boys get spanked by Paterson Eastside. We tried hard, that’s really all I can say. It was a good measurement stick for us, to see how good or bad we are.

Tuesday, I had a fun day in school because we did some stuff with blowing up volcanoes which was really cool. We also made a fake volcano and made it erupt which was cool. Later that day, I coached the students in the teacher-faculty game. I also played and killed the teachers but I could only play twice, unfortunately I could not coach my team to victory, due to some bad substitutions down the stretch. Later that day, I had a basketball workout. It was good, working a lot on increasing my handle speed and different types of finishes.

Wednesday, I had a trip in school to the Natural History Museum. In my opinion it was really boring because I’ve been there over 20 times, literally. Once we got back to school I worked myself out in the school gym, I worked alot my 1 v. 1 moves along with pull-ups. That night, I was really hype about seeing myself on Nickelodeon. It was a fun night, and it was great knowing a lot of people were watching it.

Thursday, I had a Math and Spanish test. The math went well, but the Spanish not so much. I was not proud of myself because I could have studied more and I chose not to. But, I was happy because I know I did great on my Math test. That day, I was experiencing a lot of headaches and I could not go to practice because I was getting it checked out.

Friday, I had an easy day in school because I had 2 study halls and only 2 real classes. It was great. That night I went to see the musical at my school, it was pretty good but, it would have been better if I was involved.

Saturday, I went with my dad to his school that he works at, he had some training he had to do. I finished my hw in that time along with getting my shape up. Later, I went home and just relaxed and watched some basketball.

Sunday, I went out to eat with my family for breakfast, we ate really swell. I had practice later but it was canceled due to the snow. After, I came home and watched James Harden absolutely destroy Lebron. I loved how James Harden was playing, it’s just crazy how he can create so much space between him and defenders and get to the line at will.

Until Next Week,
Judah McIntyre

Jarace Walker (B'More Finest)

Jarace Walker of B’More Finest seems to be the next in a long line of up-coming talent from the DMV area. On defense, Walker might be seen down low but when the ball changes sides you see he displays the skills of s physical guard. Walker can handle, score the rock and see the floor with the best of them. During John Lucas All Stars weekend Walker showed his skills against some of the top teams in the nation. We can’t wait to see this youngster at one of our upcoming Spotlight events.

Team Rio National Ready To Roll

We have come to the mid-season of the Basketball Spotlight Road To The Grand Finale. The 8th Grade Division has been a total joy to watch. Here’s our mid-season 8th Grade report from the Basketball Spotlight Circuit.

Basketball Spotlight 8th Grade Midseason Report

Grand Finale Favorite: Team RIO National
Winter Warz was their first Spotlight event of the year but the way they breezed through was scary. They seemed to be playing at a different speed and effectiveness than the opposition. A good showing at Atlantic City would likely punch their ticket for the Grand Finale. They are deep, talented and battle tested. Which means they might be hard to beat anytime soon.

Surprise Team: Harlem Jets
The Jets entered the circuit virtually unknown outside of the Big Apple and quickly made a name for themselves. They won the Tip Off Classic and made it to the finals of Winter Warz. They are currently leading the circuit in Grand Finale points and will be looking to add more in America’s Playground. They are no longer a secret.

Dark Horse: Team Durant
Formerly DC Premier, this group has the talent to win it all. They won the Clash For The Cup crown but has been on the sideline since that event. Their next stop is Atlantic City where they will bump with the big boys. A good run in AC will launch them into the Grand Finale which will be a local event for these guys.

POY Candidates:

Cole Anthony (NY Rens)
Anthony has appeared in the first three Spotlight events and has put up serious numbers. He has shown he could score the rock from all three levels and has improved his ability to make his teammates better. Leading the NY Rens to a Championship might help take him over the top.

Bryant Antoine (Team RIO National)
Antoine performance at Winter Warz showed he has separated himself from his peers in the region. He showed the complete package from the perimeter and driving to the cup. His feel for the game and fluid motion will make your mouth water.

Adeleye Oyekanium (Harlem Jets)
Oyekanium is a high motor forward and put up tremendous numbers on the Spotlight circuit. He proved to be a constant matchup problem by either being too big or too quick for the opposition. I can’t wait to see him in Atlantic City.
Best Mid-Season Coach Oz Cross (New Heights)
He didn’t take home a championship yet but you have to admire what Cross has done with this newly formed squad. They seemed to have gelled together quickly and figured out their roles. The former Coach of the Year seems to be working his middle school magic again.
Most Improved: Papie Roberts (Newark Pharoah)
A reserved guard last season Roberts has the keys to the engine this year with Newark Pharaoh. The scoring point guard has shown good skills against some of the top competition in the region. He refused to back down and always gives his team a shot to win.
Best Fresh Face Elijah Wenn (Harlem Jets)
Wenn showed that his presence matters. He ran the point for the Jets as they won the Tip Off Classic and placed runner up at Winter Warz. His heady plays and ability to score or run the show takes this NYC squad to the next level.

Terror Squad Still Team To Beat

We have come to the half-way point to the Road To The Grand Finale. The 7th Grade Division had some exciting moments during the time. Here is our mid-season report 7th Grade Report for the Basketball Spotlight Circuit.

Basketball Spotlight 7th Grade Mid-season Report

Grand Finale Favorite: Team Durant
The “Terror Squad” took their first lost at Winter Warz which should make them even more dangerous for the AC Showcase. This talented bunch are capable of running the table and winning the Grand Finale. The taste of defeat might be similar to Bruce Lee tasting his own blood.

Surprise Team: PSA Cardinals
Last year this group played mostly in the Blue Division but now have developed into a regional threat. They had a final four finish at the Tip Off Classic and a runner-up finish at the Winter Warz. Their scrappy style helps them be able to compete against any competition.

Dark Horse: King Street Kings
KSK won the Winter Warz crown after going winless during the Clash For The Cup. The ability to knock off two of the top 3 teams in the region proves they are capable of running the table. The AC Showcase will put them on the frontline.
POY Candidates:

Cameron Byers (Team Durant):
Byers has got things done inside for the Terror Squad all year. In most situations Byers was seen sealing a defender on the blocks and powering up for a bucket. On numerous occasions Cameron made the big buckets down the stretch to save the day the Terror Squad.

Elijah Everett (King Street Kings)
Everett’s performance at Winter Warz has thrown his hat into the ring. The lanky power forward has shown improvement on the offensive end and tries to put together moves with confidence. If he keeps this up he can lead KSK to the Grand Finale Championship.
Jordan Toles (Team Durant)
Toles also has been terrific at times for Terror Squad. He has shown his high wire act and explosiveness when scoring in transition or along the baseline. His outside shot has grown since the season started and he’s beginning to make better decisions.
Jaylen Murray (PSA Cardinals)
The smooth shooting guard is one of the main reasons PSA has made the major jump upward. He can stroke the pill and slash to the basket when needed. If he catches on to a hot streak he could led the Bronx squad to the Grand Finale title.
CJ Robinson (Gauchos)
Robinson performance at the Tip Off Classic had him looking like the best guard in the region. If he has another stellar performance in Atlantic City he could make a strong bid for POY honors. Once he gets going he is difficult to contain.
Best Mid-season Coach: Reggie Carter (Team IZOD)
Carter returned to the sidelines to resurrect the IZOD grammar school model and he has done a good job with this group. They are still searching for an identity but he has them learning the plays and developing their basketball IQ’s. They made a championship game run during the Tip Off Classic and a final four showing at Winter Warz.
Most Improved: William White (KSK)
White showed some flashes last season but now he has the confidence to take over the game. It’s extremely difficult to stay in front of him once he gets into attack mode. His array of dribbling techniques allows him to get anywhere he wants on the floor.
Best Fresh Face: Nate Tabor (I 10 Celtics)
Tabor represented the West Coast to the fullest during the Clash For The Cup. He was virtually unstoppable on the blocks in terms of scoring and snatching caroms. After dominating on the 7th Grade level he also gave the 8th Graders a taste.

Team Durant Has Added More Pieces

We have come to the half-way point to the Road To The Grand Finale. The 6th Grade division seems wide open right now and packs a lot of talent. Here’s our mid-season report for the Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade circuit.

Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Midseason Report

Grand Finale Favorite: Team Durant
Formerly Slam City Glory, this team has juiced up their roster with the addition of some of the top players from Annadale Bulldogs. They still possess the services of the #1 player in the country in Zion Harmon. They are a lock for the Grand Finale and should make a deep run at the AC Showcase in a couple of weeks.

Surprise Team: Philly Triple Threat
PTT crashed the party at the Winter Warz and a run at the AC Showcase should solidify their presence at the Grand Finale. They seem to have put together a unique bunch that is hungry for a few more titles. We will see how they flourish with that deep field in America’s Playground.

Dark Horse: New World Unlimited
The DMV squad has the making of a team that could win it all. They are not as active as others in this age group but their Clash For The Cup crown gives them a chance to be available for the Grand Finale. A trip to the AC Showcase might make things easier for this group.
POY Candidates:

Zion Harmon (Team Durant)
Few can argue about Harmon’s name in this spot and frankly it’s probably his award to loss. “The Lion” not only did damage on multiple age groups during his Spotlight tenure but also has dominated the competition on the national scene. He’s the most well-known 6th Grade player in America.
Jaylen Hall (New World Unlimited)
Hall put NWU on his back as he guided them through the trenches during the Clash For The Cup. His strength and scoring ability makes him a factor every time he steps on the floor. He has takeover the game potential and he showed it at the Clash For The Cup.

Justice Williams (Team IZOD)
Williams is title chasing for Team IZOD and his play on the floor has been flawless. He gives you a mixture of scoring and play making skills. He has nice size combined with a unique feel for the game. At the Winter Warz he lit up the score boards with buckets.
Zaakir Williamson (Philly Triple Threat)
Williamson dominance on the post has opened the flood gates for PTT success. He was a man-child on the blocks during Winter Warz and should be a name to know at the AC Showcase.

Best Mid-Season Coach Ty Morris (Philly Triple Threat) Morris built this team up from scratch and it paid dividends during Winter Warz when they won the title. Now he must be ready to play the role of the hunted instead of the hunter. They will get their first shot at the AC Showcase.

Best Fresh Face: Malachi Smith (Gauchos)
Smith had a barrage of scoring during Winter Warz. His range seems to be when he walks in the gym. Once he gets hot it’s usually curtains for the opposition. We will be watching to see how he prospers during the AC Showcase.

CC Sabathia Jr. Strikes The Competition!

CC Sabathia Jr showed that he had serious game on the basketball court at the 2015 BBall Spotlight Winter Warz Event in New Jersey. The son of famous Major League pitcher CC Sabathia showed a nice handle, made a couple good hustle plays and showed a nice stroke from beyond the three point line. On a 60 Elite team filled with top notch players, Carsten Sabathia played a vital role on both sides of the ball. Stay tuned for more from Winter Warz.

Havoc City Running The Show

We are midway through the Basketball Spotlight Road To The Grand Finale and the 5th Grade Division has given us a great look into the future. Here’s our Basketball Spotlight mid-season 5th Grade Report.

Basketball Spotlight Mid-Season 5th Grade Report

Grand Finale Favorite: Havoc City Elite
These boys won the Tip Off Classic and the Clash For The Cup. They seem to strike when the iron is hot. They have one of the best backcourts in the country and the other pieces to go around it. They have the recipe to take home the Grand Finale crown in June.

Surprise Team: NY Rens
The Kat man is back as his NY Rens squad crashed the party at Winter Warz. Riverside was our favorite to win the event but got blindsided by the aggressive Rens. Now they will be traveling to the AC Showcase and ready to collect some more points.
Dark Horse: Riverside Hawks:
RH made it to the finals of the Tip Off Classic and Winter Warz. They have been right there but couldn’t cross over the threshold. Now as they enter the loaded AC Showcase they are a dangerous team hungry for a banner. They still have enough time to put together a run and won the Grand Finale crown.
POY Candidates

Dug McDaniel (Havoc City)
The point guard’s play has been outstanding thus leading his team to two championships. He plays the game with much poise and is loves getting his teammates involved to secure the win. It would be tough to identify a better floor general in the country right now.

Antonio Sellers (Gauchos)
Sellers has played the role as the hired gun this year we rolling through the Spotlight with Havoc City, USA Select and Gauchos (6th Grade). Each time he helped his team make deep runs and performed on a high level. I’m anxious to see who he shows up with at the AC Showcase.
Kameran Rodriquez (Riverside Hawks)
Rodriquez will be a key component if Riverside can win the Grand Finale crown. He’s not afraid to take the big shot like he proved in the semi-finals of the Tip Off Classic. He has the capabilities to turn it on at any time during the game.
Ferrell Crowell (Havoc City)
Crowell went bananas during the Clash For The Cup. He put together one of the best weekend performances of the season. If he keeps up this pace he has a shot to not only lead them to a Grand Finale championship but also take home POY honors.
Best Mid-Season Coach: Doug Dormu (Havoc City)
After parting ways with Team Glory Dormu was still able to put together the #1 5th Grade squad in the region. Now he has his work cut it for him with trying to bring home that ultimate prize. He has the horses to get it done.
Best Fresh Face: Andrew RheBottom (Team Durant)
Andrew has been one of the most impressive players on the Spotlight scene. He showed well during the Tip Off Classic and Clash For The Cup. His size and skill level indicates that he will be a force to reckon with for the next few years.

Spencer Joyner Showing His Talent At Winter Warz!

Spencer Joyner scored in droves at the 2015 BBall Spotlight Winter Warz event in Neptune, New Jersey. Spencer Joyner is a Class of 2022 Prospect who was nearly unstoppable off the dribble getting to the rim with ease and finishing through contact. Stay tuned as Basketball Spotlight and Middle School Hoops bring your more action from Winter Warz.

Judah And His Rens Teammates!
Wassup World,

Monday, was a great day in school. I did have a delayed opening, meaning I missed two of my least favorite classes, math and science, instead i had gym where we played a mixture of basketball and baseball, which was fun. When the day was over, I had track and field practice for an hour and a half and we really worked on our stamina and strengthening our legs. After, I had a really tough conditioning workout that worked on my strength in all places of my body especially my core. Afterwards, I was so tired from my homework, I barely did any of my homework.

Tuesday, for some reason took extremely long to finish. I wanted the day to finish because I was really excited for Track practice. We worked a lot on our running technique and working on improving our speed. That night, I had a good basketball workout, working on improving my handle speed and improving my range. Also, I got to use some weights, improving my strength, which I do not get to do so often.

Wednesday, my teachers were becoming a little bit lazy in my opinion because they know Spring Break is really close and really need a break just as much as the kids do. Most of my classes were pretty relaxed and we did not really work on much knowing that we were going to have a snow day the next day. Later, I had baseball practice which was good and I made it past the first cuts so that was good. After, I went to Rens practice a little bit late but I still got a good workout in.

Thursday, I slept in because of the snow day we had. I made myself some good breakfast while I watched a lot of Fresh-Prince of Bel Air. Soon, I had to finish my homework that I wanted to be done with so I was free to do whatever over the weekend. I finished, and I went to my friend’s house after to go sledding and play football in the snow and such, it was really fun.

Friday, I had no school again, but this time not because of the snow but because it was planned ahead of time. I was still over at my friend’s house and we hung out and went to the mall and watched 50 shades of gray, which by the way was terrible, I suggest no one sees that movie. After, my dad took me back home and we watched another really bad movie that Liam Neeson was in.

Saturday, I went to the Rens 6 grade practice. Since, my dad is the assistant, I got was able to come and help out and teach some of these youngins some things. I helped the big men which was interesting considering I am a small guard. Even though, I am small I helped them with their footwork and some of their post moves. I sort of felt like a big man for a brief moment, but I had to unfortunately come back to reality. After, they had a game against some horrible team and they won by 45.

Sunday, I had Rens practice which was good, because we did not follow directions we did a lot of conditioning drills but, we pushed through and made it to the end of practice. After, most of my team went to Fordham University to watch the Catholic Schools “AA” games and we saw a lot of great talent and teams play. The best game was probably the Holy Cross vs. St. Raymonds game, where it went into overtime and Holy Cross pulled out the victory. Later, I went home and got ready for the week.

See Ya Next Week!

Reasons You Should Attend The Philly Phenom East Camp....
Each Year the competition to win basketball scholarships at every level becomes more intense. Every legitimate means of gaining an edge toward securing an education and the opportunity to play at the college level is an investment in your future.

Only a handful of players win D-I scholarships each year. It is a difficult jump from high school to college in any sport. Basketball is the most limited in terms of scholarships available. Colleges now recruit not only nationally, but internationally, so the pool of athletes searching for scholarships continues to grow.

Using NCAA figures from their own “participation rate”, study and “probability of competing beyond high school”, the NCAA estimates that 2.9% of HS seniors will compete at some level in college. If our student/athletes get the message sooner rather than later about the numbers, they can positively affect what they have some control over.

The keys are academics, skills training and nutrition. Winning a college scholarship is not just about ability. The quality of effort expended can and will improve your odds of success.
