Darrell Victory
The Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 8th Grade Division was loaded top to bottom. Here’s a first look at our top performers.
Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic Top Performers Part 1
Darrell Victory Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Victory did just that for his NYC based famed Riverside program bringing home the victory and the elusive Spotlight Banner in the championship against a solid Team Loaded DC team. Darrell a sturdy built, tough nosed guard that is very difficult to stay in front of. He can get anywhere on the floor using his speed and quickness to penetrate the lane dropping no look passes or scoring himself with a wide array of finishes. He finished with a game high 17 points in the championship and 11 points in the Semifinal.
Francisco Mattei Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Mattei has transitioned nicely to the perimeter with a mixture of skill and a can’t lose attitude he is a player anyone would love to have on their team. Cisco has developed a nice 3 point shot and he could always score around the rim. He rebounds his position very well and always seems to come up with the ball during loose ball situations. He tallied 15 point in the championship and 10 point in the semifinal.Jaquan Sanders Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Sanders is a high IQ wing guard that has good size and reminds you of a Draymond Green type player. Jaquan just knows how to play the game of basketball the right way and he is a very good 3 point shooter. He also has the ability to make plays for others with his passing ability. He had 12 points in the championship.Rodney Rice Guard (Team Loaded DC) – Rice runs the point for his team and he looks comfortable doing it. He plays with a good pace and has a nice feel for the game. Rodney can score from all three levels, once known just as a knock down 3 point shooter, he still has that in his game along with a nice pull up off the bounce and a floater at the rim. He also has the ability to get his teammates involved and we saw him make this beautiful full length lead pass to one of his teammates rim running. He finished with 13 points in the championship and 21 points including 5 three pointers in their semifinal thriller. Quinn Clark Forward (Team Loaded DC) – Clark can do it all from the wing forward position standing at 6’5 he has nice size that translates to the high school level already. He can score out to the 3 point line, handle the ball making plays for himself or others where we saw him drive and drop of to the big in the lane, rebound the basketball and he can defend multiple positions. He is definitely a prospect with a high ceiling.David Onanina Forward (Team Loaded DC) – David is an imposing 6’8 power forward that plays hard on both ends of the floor. Right now he has just scratched the surface of his potential contributing more on the defensive end blocking shots and rebounding. He does show some promise offensively with a nice touch around the rim and was able to knock down 4 of 5 of his free throws in the two games we watched. He finished with 9 points in both games.Trey Thomas Guard (Team Loaded DC) – Thomas is a player we have seen for years now and with improved size he just does what he always did better and that is get buckets. Trey can score from all three levels and he is always in attack mode putting pressure on the defense. We also liked his ability to drive and dish to Rice for open 3 pointers. He potentially could be part of one of the better backcourts in the country with him and Rodney Rice.

William Richardson
The Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 8th Grade Division was loaded top to bottom. Here’s our final look at our top performers.
Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 8th Grade Top Performers Part 4
William Richardson Guard (NJ Playaz)- Richardson has been making a big name in other events and now he wanted to show and prove at The Spotlight. The point guard is lightning quick and gets from end to end in a blur. When you lay off Richardson he can hit the long 3-ball even when the defense closes out. He’s off to a great start for his 8th Grade season. Desean Lecque Guard (NJ Playaz)- Richardson’s backcourt mate Lecque is another player that’s emerging this season. He attacks the basket from the wing position and has enough in his arsenal to get buckets against anyone. His motor is top notched therefore the coach never has to wonder if he’s going to play hard. His older brother Jalen was also a late bloomer now he’s ranked as one of the best players in America. Max Regusa Guard (NY Jayhawks)- Regusa opened his game up at the Tip Off Classic. Known as a floor general he unleashed his outside shot which has good range and excellent rotation. Once the defense bit he showed off his drive, draw and dish game. This kid showed some excellent court vision. Malik Bowman Forward (6th Man Warriors)- The 7th Grader wasn’t bothered by playing up against the competition. He displayed supreme versatility and the ability to finish through contact. He looked like he belonged on this stage against this competition. Bowman is definitely something to watch.Michael Moore Forward (PSA Cardinals)- Throughout their existence, PSA Cardinals formerly Team Scan has been known to put out big time forwards. We not saying Moore is big time yet but his best basketball is down the road. The long, lanky forward is a capable rebounder and rim protector. We will watch him closely this year as he gets his offensive package together on the blocks. Richard Nweke Forward (PSA Cardinals)- Nweke is in the same boat as Moore. He’s still a little raw offensively but will hit the glass hard and bang on you off the vertical leap. Right now he’s still a plus on the defensive end by disrupting shots inside and clogging the lane against driving guards. Asim Jones Guard (Hoop Kingz)- Jones brought his game to the Spotlight. He broke down the defense with a nice handle and ratchet from behind the arc and finishing in traffic. His team didn’t perform as well but James made sure he caught our attention.Tarique Foster Forward (Wiz Kids)- Foster is a sleek wing forward with a high basketball IQ that understands floor balance and spacing. His tremendous length and wingspan he could develop into a great defensive stopper. Keep an eye on this kid.
Brandon Perez Forward (Wiz Kids)- It seemed like every time I look up Perez was finishing over someone from the wing. The athletic forward that finishes with power above size and he rebounds well for his position. Finally, he also has the ability to create his own shot and space off the bounce. Tahaad Pettiford Guard (Jersey City Boys Club)- Pettiford played up and stepped up big. The southpaw proved he could score from anywhere and dance around defenders. He displays the JC toughness their guards are known for like Hurley, Dehere and Ingram. It’s always a joy to watch him rock.

Jaden Bradley
Our next Diary Of A Baller takes us to North Carolina where 6’4 guard Jaden Bradley is rated as the #1 8th Grader in America. Last summer Bradley led the CP3 All Stars to the 13U AAU National Championship. He also was named the MVP of the Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp after a dominating performance. Basketball Spotlight world let’s welcome Jaden as he gives us a look into his life for the next eight weeks.
Good Morning Basketball Spotlight World,
I’m Jaden Bradley from Concord, NC and first I would like to thank Basketball Spotlight for giving me the opportunity to do Diary Of A Baller. Here’s how my week went. Monday, I started with an early morning workout at 6 am before I grabbed a shower and breakfast. It is a different kind of week for me, I have a band concert tonight. I play the baritone saxophone in my Middle School band, I am a little nervous because this is my first time playing this instrument and I have a solo. I hope I don’t mess up, it’s going to be a long day. Concert time, I’m on time and I’m ready.
Tuesday was game day! Like every game day, I woke up excited and ready for the game. I have to take care of business first though, let’s get these classes done. I hope I don’t have too much homework. Anyway, I turned my music on and got ready for school. We had a good game and are undefeated so far. Since I didn’t have much homework, I had the chance to go watch some high school basketball, Rocky Rover versus Butler. It was an exciting game! I’m super tired now and I’m looking forward to a shower and some sleep.
Wednesday, I started with an early morning workout at 6 am and showered up for school. Today is Family Day, it is only a half day. I love Family Day since we don’t usually have homework. My mom picked me up and we went to grab some lunch at Chick Fil a. Once I got home, I watched a little TV and I had to get ready to go meet my trainer. I took a nap on the way there so I could be fresh. After my workout, I am feeling ready to have another good game tomorrow. Around 7, I sat with my parents to watch my older brother’s college basketball game. Before long it was time to get ready for the next day, I’m tired now anyway so I think I’ll go to bed early.
Thursday was once again Game Day! I jumped up to get ready for school because I had a math test that I had been studying hard for. The test was hard, but I think I did pretty well. My team faced a pretty tough opponent today, but we pulled out another win. All my teammates are getting involved and the gym was pretty loud today.
Friday, I came home I had to get ready for CP3 camp registration. It’s going to be a pretty long weekend, but I’m ready for it. I have to be up and in the gym by 8 o’clock in the morning. We will do a lot of drill work and play some games. We did not get done until 8 o’clock that night so I know I will be tired. I finished the camp with 25 points per game and on the All Star team and the win.
See You Guys Next Week.
