Moody Park Summer League Top Performers (Middle School Division)

Freddie Young Jr

The Moody Park Summer League is underway and Basketball Spotlight stepped on the court yesterday. We got a chance to check out the middle school division and here are the top performers we saw.

Moody Park Summer League Top Performers

Freddie Young Jr. Guard (YSU Elite)- Young is the talk of the Mercer County area of the rising frosh. The smooth combo guard proved why yesterday. He scores with from all three levels and makes it look easy. I love the way he flows in transition while either dropping a dime or finishing himself. He led his team with 12 markers as they cruised to the victory.

Dameon Samuels Guard (YSU Elite)- The lefty compliments Samuels well. He runs the floor and finishes with ease. He also has developed some play making skills of his own in terms of breaking down defenders and dropping dimes.
Brandon Hendryx Forward (YSU Elite)- Hendryx is more mobile than his younger days and showed soft hands on the blocks. Since his team used the transition game often he didn’t get many touches but we could still see his effectiveness.
Terrell Pitts Guard (Latimer’s Construction)- Pitts scoring prowess was on full display yesterday and when you add in that he’s only a rising 8th Grader we might have something here. He used his size to be hard to contain in the open floor and half court situations. He has some wiggle in his game and ability to finish. He tallied 16 markers in the win.
Doug Evans Jr Guard (Latimer’s Construction)- Pitts’s teammates Evans also tallied 16 markers while scoring from all three levels. He has a smoothness about his game and showed some instincts of a play maker. I like the body control he shows when avoiding shot blockers and to get his shot off in traffic.
Gabe Mitchell-White Guard (Latimer’s Construction)- Mitchell-White is another rising 8th Grader that caught my eye. He’s more of a point guard than scorer. I like how he got all his scoring teammates involved and seemed to enjoy doing it. He another one we will be keeping a close eye on.
Kahzir Brown Guard (Team Wilkins)- Brown brought the energy and effectiveness on both ends of the floor. I like how he attacked the hole and was also able to hit the pull up jumper. His release point is a little low but that should develop as he gets stronger. On defense he was a hawk in the passing lanes and even chased down an opponent for a block.
Amar Lane Forward (Kelcher and Associates)- With some hard work this lanky forward could be the best prospect I saw yesterday. The rising 8th Grader stands about 6’4 with a serious wing span. He’s still developing his game and is not even scratching the surface of his potential. Stay tuned on Lane.

Noah Johnson (Positive Black Image Connect)

The Trenton Youth Basketball Summer League kicked off today and Basketball Spotlight was in the building and watched the elementary school level play. Here’s a look at our Top Performers we saw today.

Trenton Youth Basketball Summer League Top Performers

Noah Johnson Guard (Positive Black Image Connect)- A basketball analyst loves seeing a player that has a good feel for the game because it makes your job easier. Johnson shows those instincts when he’s pushing the rock and making decisions. He got into the lane at will but knew when to drop the pass off or score to help his squad. He’s a only baby but keep an eye out for him.

Ceasar Royster Guard (Positive Black Image Connect)- Royster is another guard that caught my eye. He has a strong frame but still maneuvers around shot blockers with a mean floater. I like his penetration skills and scorers mentality. He has some smoothness that should keep us interested.
CJ Owens Guard (Positive Black Image Connect)- Owens is a sparkplug pass first guard that lives on his penetration skills. His drive, draw and dish game helps him standout on the floor. He never believes he couldn’t get to the cup. His fire and court vision should make him relevant on the floor in years on the floor.
Zaquan Cullers Guard (Green Team 4 Life)- This youngster has deep range and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger. He will spot up a few feet behind the 3 point line and let it go. I saw him knock down some deep treys. He’s fearless from deep.
Zaquay Cullers Guard (Green Team 4 Life)- The other Cullers brother controls the game with the rock in his hands. He has a good handle and some scoring ability when capable. Finally he has serious will to win.
Jakye Livingston Guard (Green Team 4 Life)- Livingston was another guard on this squad that caught our interest. He has similar size as Zaquay but looks to score a little more. He alo has his entire future ahead of him. Watch out for this kid.
Hyshon Cannon Guard (Coderite Electric)- Last but not least Cannon has the chance to be one of the best prospects I saw today. He wasn’t the most dominant but his size and outside shooting ability translates to the next level. He has a smooth scoring approach.

Moody Park Summer League Top Performers (Elementary Division)

Tushyne Johnson

Basketball Spotlight returned to Moody Park yesterday to check out the elementary division of their summer. This event gave us a chance to see some of the up and coming talent.

Moody Park Top Performers (Elementary Division)

Tushyne Johnson Guard (Coderite Electric)- Johnson is young as you know and lacks strength but oozes potential from his veins. I like his length and potential size while attempting to make plays off the bounce. The important aspect is that he’s already playing the guard position at a young age. He has the ability to create and make plays or teammates.

Nate Townsend Guard (Blackstars)- The kid’s passing ability was the first thing that caught our eye. He hit cutting teammates on the dime. I love his drive, draw and dish game. But don’t get it mistaken he can also score when giving the opportunity.
John Paul Dickerson Guard (Trenton PBA #11)- The explosive guard took over the game for his squad down the stretch. He got out into transition and scored in traffic. On defense he played the passing lanes well and guarded multiple positions.
Henry Saville Forward (Trenton PBA #11)- Saville also came up for Trenton PBA #11 down the stretch. He hit a couple of runners in the lane and also knocked down some clutch free throws. His strong frame helped him absorb the contact.
Kabian Goss Guard (Trenton PBA #11)- Goss continues to impress us with his pass first mentality. His handle is sharp and he often handles the rock with his head up. His teammates are lucky to have him at the controls.
Godwin Wisner Forward (Trenton PBA #11)- Wisner made a few breakaway layups in the closing moments of this tight contest. He has some good size and long arms. He’s mobile on both ends of the floor and his best days of basketball are ahead of them.
Jaquan Gaither Guard (Trenton PBA #11)- Gaither is a glue player for Trenton PBA. He played well on both side of the all and was willing to do all the dirty work. He plays the game with good energy.
Tyler Handy Guard (Team 85)- Handy took over the game at times. His handle is mature and he knows how to convert at the cup. His feel for the game is advanced for his age and he has natural point guard abilities. I really would love to see to more of this kid.
Myles Hansford Guard (Team 85)- Myles is a hardnosed guard with some point guard instincts and finishes skills. On defense he pressured the rock and caused turnovers before getting loose in transition. He makes a great backcourt mate for Handy.
Julian Anderson Guard (Team 85)- I like the release on this kid outside shot and his scoring mentality. He’s not as quick as others but has some craftiness to help him get past defenders. He also seems to have a bright future.

Kamar Archie Forward (Team 85)- Archie did the dirty work on the glass and provided some scoring punch inside. He didn’t try to go outside of his comfort zone but instead made his living on the blocks. He was a strong inside force for Team 85.
